Nestled in a small town on the west coast of South Africa, just an hour from Cape Town, the New Beginnings Chapel is designed as a modern reinterpretation of a place of worship.

Moving beyond the conservative church typologies typical of the region, its sculptural form is conceived as a bold architectural landmark. The design is directly inspired by the dramatic, ragged mountain ranges of the Cape Peninsula landscape.

Inside the chapel, the dramatic roof profile is engineered to uplift the gaze toward the heavens, viscerally reinforcing the idea of a higher power. Besides serving as a place of worship, the church hall is also designed as a multi-functional space that can host events such as weddings and youth workshops for the local community.
