"It takes a village to raise a child" — an African proverb

Our concept for the ECD (Early Childhood Development) Centre is to create a cluster of village-like buildings built with locally sourced materials such as mud brick or mud-packed walls. The design intent of the village layout is to create a safe haven that promotes a sense of community and encourages playful exploration within the many nooks and crannies of this imaginary urban village.

To counter the hot sub-Saharan climate, the design employs simple passive temperature control strategies to ensure the Centre remains shaded and cool throughout the day. The clustered building configuration is designed to fit into any urban or rural location and can be rearranged to suit any site conditions.
